MORE MILESTONES, 11/19/07

Lots of important things happen today: First, all of the things that need to be transported into the Machine Room have been transported, and the huge louvers that ordinarily cover the loading door are finally replaced and battened down. The final piece of the Drive Assembly is wrestled into place, and we discover separate projects going on in the Station House: the old Drive Assembly has gone from jet black to orange with black trim, to match the color scheme that’s already been applied to the new Drive Assembly as well as Olivet and Sinai, the Station House, and the Arch. And the Station House floor is being completely refinished.

The Meaning of Sparks
Whenever there are sparks, it generally means that something needs grinding off or grinding down to a better fit, or to get rid of sharp rough edges.

Superstructure
Not only is the Drive Assembly securely bolted to the floor to prevent vibrations, an extra step has been taken: a special superstructure has been installed in the upper walls and ceiling. This prevents the upper part of the Assembly from vibrating. So the entire Assembly is vibration-damped.

A Quick Meeting Outside

Meanwhile, Back at the Station House
The floors are being redone.

New Paint for the Old Wheels
Even the old now-museum-display machinery gets color-updated and brought into the new look.

Big Moment!
At last! Everything that needed to be brought into the Machine Room has been brought in! And now the loading door will be closed up again. That’s a milestone!
