Weathering
Because the cars are always exposed to the weather and never taken inside, the heat and cold wreak havoc on the wood. Here you see some of the cracks and gouges that must be exposed, filled in and repainted. This is done on a regular basis, but it’s rare that it can be done when the cars are not on their tracks.
